You know what I don't get about high-stakes tests? Why can't they be more like the SAT?
SAT. Four hours. Retake it if you don't like your score. And relied on by colleges nationwide.
Why can't we get on that bandwagon?

Our graduation test (GHSGT) can be taken 5 times, more I guess if you repeat 11th or 12th.
Our high school proficiency exams are like that here in Nevada. I think it's 5 times, too. A couple of them are taken for the first time at the end of their sophomore years, and the rest during their junior years. I work with a group of students who have their credits and are only trying to pass their exams. You've never seen such serious students...(for most of them, it's the first time for that!)
I want ALL the state tests to be like that. Every year our kids spend between 9 and 12 1/2 hours on testing. I want 4 hours and done, and then for the kids who are unhappy with how they did (because some of them sometimes are), I want the options for retakes. Also, results within a month, not this 4 months later crap.
